Meltzoff and Moore examined interactional synchrony in infants
Meltzoff and Moore used a controlled observation
Meltzoff and Moore had an adult display one of threefacial expressions or a hand gesture. The infant had a dummy in their mouth to prevent facial responses. After the adults display, the dummy was removed and the child’s expression was filmed
Meltzoff and Moore results: There was a clear association between the infant’s behaviour and the adult model.
Meltzoff and Moore conclusion: interactional synchrony is innate
