    • stents keep arteries open
    • coronary heart disease - the coronary arteries that supply blood to muscle of the heart get blocked by layers of fatty material build up
    • CHD causes arteries to become narrow - blood flow is restricted and theres lack of oxygen to heart muscle
    • stents are tubes inserted inside arteries keeping them open and allowing blood to pass through to heart muscle
    • stents lower the risk of heart attacks in people with CHD, effective for a long time and recovery time is quick
    • risk of complications during operation e.g heart attack and risk of infection, risk of developing blood clots near the stent (thrombosis)
