    • Where was affected?
      Parts of Argentina and Uruguay, South America.
    • Why did this drought happen?
      It was caused by rising temperatures from climate change, and a lack of precipitation due to 'La Niña'; caused by an especially strong Walker circulation, the cold oceanic and positive atmospheric phase of the broader El Niño Southern Oscillation weather phenomenon.
    • Impacts
      It affected more than 60% of Uruguay's territory with extreme or severe drought conditions. This prolonged drought led to agricultural losses exceeding $1 billion and complications in the availability of drinking water.
