  • Legge-Calve-Perthes Disease
    • idiopathic osteonecrosis of capital femoral epiphysis
    • idiopathic avascular necrosis of femoral head
    • common between 5-10 years
    • first symptom is limp and/or pain
    • shortening of leg
    • osteoarthritis develops later
    • more common in males than females
    • one leg starts and other follows
    • limited range of motion
  • Fractured neck of femur
    • proximal femur - no movement
    • distal femur
    • pulled proximally (quadriceps and hamstrings)
    • pulled laterally (lateral rotators and gluteus maximus)
  • Fractured mid-shaft femur
    • proximal femur - generally neutral
    • distal femur
    • pulled proximally (quadriceps and hamstrings)
    • posteriorly (gastrocnemius)
