    • Unvaccinated individuals, especially children under 5 years old
    • Adults who were not vaccinated as children

    1. Supportive care (rest, fluids, fever-reducing medications)
    2. Antiviral medications (in severe cases)
    3. Vaccination (best prevention)

    Whooping cough is a highly contagious bacterial infection of the respiratory system

    • Infants and young children who are not fully vaccinated, as well as adults whose immunity has waned are at risk
    • Severe, uncontrollable coughing fits, often followed by a "whooping" sound as the person inhales
    • Other symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, and fever

    1. Antibiotics to treat the infection and reduce the severity and duration of the illness
    2. Supportive care, such as fluids and cough suppressants, may also be necessary
    3. Vaccination is the best prevention
