• Atomic Bomb - weapon made by the Americans that smashes nuclearatoms to produce a very large explosion. They ended the war with Japan in 1945.
• island hopping - a strategy used by the Japanese to seize control of islands in the Pacific ocean. This strategy was also used by the Americansto defeat the Japanese one island at a time all the way back to Japan
• Operation Barbarossa - the German attack on the Soviet Union in 1941
• Battle of the Bulge - was a last ditch effort by the Germans to push theAllies back towards the Atlantic and to reverse the gains the Allies had made in Western Europe in late 1944 and early 1945
