• Noun - names something
• Pronouns - substitutes for nouns, the noun for which pronoun is used is called antecedent. Used to eliminate redundancy.
• Verbs - The most important part of a sentence, expressing action, feeling, or thought.
• Adjective - used to modify, describe or add new ideas to a noun or pronoun.
• Articles - also an adjectives used to show whether a noun is specific or general.
• Adverbs - modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.
• Prepositions - shows the relationship that exists between words in a sentence. Word placed before a noun or a pronoun.
• Interjections - used to express strong feeling or sudden emotiton.
• Modals - helping verbs expressing opinion, probability, suggestion, or wish.
• Verbals - formed from a verb but do not function as a verb; rather it can be used as nouns, adjectives or as adverbs.
• Phrases - group of words without a subject and predicate. Functions as a single part of speech
• Clause - is a group of words that has a subject and a predicate
• Sentence - is a group of words that expresses a complete thought
