THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

• • Tissue - group of cells with similar structure and function
• • Organ - group of tissues working together for a specific function (eg stomach)
• • Organs are grouped into organ systems which work together to form organisms
• • Food contains 3 main nutrients: Carbohydrates (eg starch), Protein and Lipids (fats)
  • These are large molecules: too large to be absorbed into bloodstream, have to be digested
• • During Digestion: large molecules broken down into smaller molecules by enzymes so it can be absorbed into the bloodstream
