Domain Archaea

• Archaea - prokaryotic, strong bonds in cell membrane that enables it to withstand extreme environments; Cell wall has pseudopeptidoglycan.
• Halophiles - salt loving; can thrive above 20-25% salinity.
• Thermophiles - Can live in extremely hot environments. SOme can withstand 121 C.
• Alkaliphiles/Acidophiles - Can thrive at extreme pH conditions.
• Methanogens - They make methane as a waste product. They are found in swamp sediments, sewage, and in buried landfills.
