  • Magnetic materials

can be attracted to a magnet
ex; iron, nickel, cobalt and steel (mixture containing vast amounts iron)
  • Magnetised

means turned into a magnet and is what magnetic materials can become as the magnets you have used were all made by magnetising magnetic materials
  • Permanent magnets

always have a magentic field and its magnetic field cannot switch off and on again
  • Elctromagnets

use elcectricity and when current is switched off, the magnetic material loses most of its magnetism
  • Production of electromagnets

wrapping a wire around a magnetic material (eg. iron).
the wire wrapping is called a coil and the maerial in the middle of the coil is called a core.
when the current passes through the coil, the magnetic material becomes magnetised.
