*what is a solution

Cards (8)

  • Dissolving

when you place an amount of solute in a solvent as it gradually dissapears, eg; the colourless solution sugar in water
  • Solution

is a mixture as eevn tho the solute seems to have disappeared, the particles have simply spread out among the water particles.
  • Particles when dissolves
the crystal is visible because it is made of lots of groups of vibrating particles packed together but as the water particles vibrate and slide past each other, they bump into the vibrating sugar particles. this movement helps separate and ,ix up the sugar particles until the water particles separate all the sugar particles until they are no longer in groups and too small to see.
  • Diagram of sugar particles dissolving

  • Transparent/ Opaque

all solutions are transparent meaning you can see through them but not meaning they're colourless.
a liquid such as milk is not transparent meaning you cannot see them as they are opaque. this shows you milk is not a solution.
  • Melting

melting involves one substance while dissolving needs two: a solute adn a solvent.
  • Dissolving vs Melting
    ...
  • No mass is lost as it has been conserved.

mass of solute + mass of solvent = mass of solution
