  • Seawater

made up of water and various salts which you can obtain from evaporating off the water (eg; letting seawater fill flat and shallow areas called beds and allowing the suns heat to evaporate the water)
  • What is Seawater Made up of
in 1000g of seawater, only 35g (3,5%) is made up of salts and of this 3,5%, about 68% is sodium chloride while the rest is made up of magnesium chloride, sodium sulfate, calcium chloride and other salts that you will have to work to remove if you want pure sodium chloride.
  • Example
the salt that's obtained from seawater is only 68% sodium chloride and the mass of sodium chloride in 100g seawater is:

    68/100 x 35 = 23.8g
  • Salts
are compounds made from acids, eg; sodium chloride is formed from hydrochloric acid and sodium sulfate is formed from sulfuric acid
