  • Deception - hiding the truth of the study which is sometimes necessary, but cost-benefit analysis and full debrief must be given.
  • Confidentiality - all information must be protected and confidential (Data protection act)
  • Informed consent - Participants are fully aware of the nature and purpose of the study and agree to take part.
  • Right to withdraw - participants can leave the study at any time, including their data.
  • Protection from harm - psychological and physical maltreatment. This includes stressful situations for different religions, cultures of opinions.
  • Debrief - discussion with Ps about the findings, their experience and provide interventions if needed.
  • Ethical guidelines - a set of principles devised by the BPS to help psychologists conduct research honestly.
  • Ethical issues - a conflict between the rights of the participant and the aims of the researcher.
  • Social sensitivity - studies and theories where there are potential social consequences or implications.
