• flashlight or penlight - assist viewing of the pharunx and cervix, to determine the reactions of the pupils of the eye
• head mirror - directs the light to the specific area
• laryngeal or dental mirror - to observe the pharynx and oral cavity
• nasal speculum - visualization of the lower and middle turbinate
• neurologic hammer - to test reflexes
• ophthalmoscope - to visualize the interior of the eye
• otoscope - to visualize the eardrum
