    abnormality is defined as any behaviour which is statistically uncommon & therefore not seen often in society
  • What is one strength of statistical infrequency?
    - usefulness: used in clinical practice as formal diagnosis
    - Beck depressed test
    - score of 30+ is interpreted as indicating severe depression
  • What is one limitation?
    - infrequent characteristics can b positive asw as negative
    - every person w IQ below 70 there's one w IQ above 130
    - do not see high IQ. as abnormal
    - shows being unusual at one end of spectrum doesn't make u abnormal
