Homogeneous Mixtures
- type of mixture that has uniform composition and properties - components are spread out evenly all throughout
Two components of Homogeneous Mixtures:
Solvent
- more abundant in solutions - dissolving medium
Solute
- less amount in solutions - the substance being dissolved - breaks apart into very small pieces and get evenly distributed
Types of Solutions:
Liquid
Solutions - Liquid is the solvent
Solid
Solutions - Solid is the solvent
Gaseous
Solutions - Gas is the solvent
Liquid Solutions:
solid-liquid (
salt water
)
liquid-liquid (
vinegar
) solute:
acetic acid
gas-liquid (
carbonated drinks
) solute:
carbon dioxide
Solid Solutions:
solid-solid (
alloys, brass, bronze
)
liquid-solid (
amalgam
) solute: mercury solvent: silver
Gaseous Solutions: (air) solvent:
nitrogen
Suspension:
Tea with Ice
Ketchup
Mustard
Tap Water
Colloid:
Black Coffee with milk
Mayonnaise
- emulsion
