  • Smoking ciggies

damage the smoker's health and also the health of ppl around them, who accidently breathe in the ciggie's smoke (Passive Smoking)

tobacco contains many diff harmful substances.
eg; nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide and particulates.
  • Nicotine

can help someone stay alert but is addictive meaning hard to get manage once you are used to smoking.
it damages blood vessels in a smoker's body and makes the, get narrower, so it gets harder for blood to get through their vessels and smokers are more likely to develop heart disease.
  • Tar

    dark, sticky substances.
some of the chemicals in tar cause cancer (cancer is caused when cells start dividing out of controla nd spread to other parts of the body)
Smoking increases risk of many different kinds of cancers, eg; lung cancer
  • Carbon Monoxide

is a poisonous gas that combines with haemoglobin in red blood cells when in the body, stopping it from doing its job.
because of this, a smoker's cells don't get enough oxygen and can't carry out enough respiration, so they don't have enough energy.
  • Particulates

tiny particles of carbon and other materials,
they get trapped inside the smoker's lungs making the walls of the alveoli break down. so instead of having millions of tiny alveoli in the lungs, the smoker has a lot of big spaces which makes it difficult for them to get enough oxygen into their blood.
