LADA

• Latent-onset autoimmune diabetes in adults refers to a variant of T1DM that occurs later in life
• It refers to a group of patients who have autoimmune destruction of beta cells (as evidenced by positive autoantibodies). It tends to have a gradual onset.
• Suspected in patients who:

  • Develop diabetes in adult life
  • Associated ketosis
  • Associated weight loss
  • Low BMI
  • Family history of autoimmune disease
• Insulin therapy is required
