Quadrat Sampling
Procedure:
Step 1: Lay out a
grid
over the study area.
Step 2:
Randomly
or
systematically
place quadrats (square frames of a known area) within the grid.
Step 3:
Count
the number of individuals of the species of interest within each quadrat.
Step 4: Calculate the
average
number per
quadrat
and
multiply
by the
total
number of quadrats to estimate the total
population.
You place quadrats at
random
co-ordinates on a grid to prevent
bias.
