  • Present simple is used for
    thoughts and feelings:
    Ex. I think so. I like it.
    states, things staying the same, facts and things that are true for a long time:
    Ex. We live quite near
    repeated actions:
    Ex. We come here every week.
    ✓ in phrases like I promise, I agree, etc:
    Ex. I promise I'll pay you back.
    ✓ in a negative question with why to make a suggestion:
    Ex. Why don't we go out?

  • NEGATIVE
    I/you/we/they do not get OR don't get
    he/she/it does not get OR doesn't get
  • QUESTION

  • Past simple
    A regular past form ends in ed.
    It happened very quickly.
    The van crashed into the cat I posted the letter yesterday.
    We once owned a caravan
  • Some verbs have an irregular past form.
    The car came out of a side road. Vicky rang earlier.
    I won the game.
    I had breakfast at six. The train left on time. We took some photos.

  • Will (neutral future)

    Used to express the future in a neutral way
  • Will
    • I'll be free for most of the summer
    • I'm thirsty. I think I'll make some tea.
  • Shall
    Can have the same meaning as 'will' in some cases, but is a little more formal
  • Shall
    • We will know/We shall know the results soon
    • I'll be on holiday in August. (= I will OR I shall)
  • Shall
    Can be used in offers and suggestions

    • Shall I pack up your shopping for you?
    • Shall we all go out together?
  • Will is not 'the future tense'. It is only one of the forms we can use to express the future.
  • In some situations, will is not the right word to use to express the future. After college I'm going to travel around the US.
