  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
    A cross-disciplinary area concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment
  • OHS may also protect co-workers, family members, employers, customers, suppliers nearby communities, and other members of the public who are affected by the workplace environment
  • Aims of OHS
    • Promote and maintain the highest degree of physical, mental, and social well-being of workers in all occupations
    • Place and maintain the worker in an environment suitable to his physiological and psychological capabilities
    • Protect workers from risk resulting from factors adverse to health
    • Prevent workers from resignation due to health caused by poor working conditions
  • Hazard
    Something that has the potential to cause harm
  • Risk
    A measure of the possibility of a specific harmful effect in given circumstances
  • Safety Standards
    Standards designed to ensure the safety of products, activities or processes and others
  • The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Occupational Health and Safety Standards (OHSS) issued D.O. 13, ss 1998, known as the Guidelines Governing Occupational Safety and Health in the Industry
  • OHS Workplace Regulations

    • The place and all equipment and furnishings are maintained in thoroughly safe, clean, and hygienic condition and in good repair
    • Keep the place free from rodents, cockroaches, and other vermin
    • Provide adequate facilities for hand washing, cleaning, and disposing of waste
    • Establish proper procedures for infection control
    • Keep the floor area and free from waste, water, and grease
    • Keep cabinets dry, clean, and close tightly
