  • This module was designed and developed to provide knowledge and skills in assessing architectural jobs requirements based on SOP in technical Drafting. On the other hand, the module was collaboratively made to give a variety of learning situations which suited the skills and ability of learners.
  • The module is composed of one lesson which is all about Market and Environment (ME).
  • After going through this module, you are expected to:
    • Differentiate needs from wants
    • Generate, analyze, and select right ideas in starting up a business
    • Apply SWOT Analysis in a preferred business proposal
    • Appreciate the importance of understanding market and environment in putting-up a business in the future
  • Needs
    Important things that every individual cannot do without in a society
  • Needs include:
    • Basic commodities for consumption
    • Clothing and other personal belongings
    • Shelter, sanitation, and health
    • Education and relaxation
  • Wants
    Desires, luxury and extravagance that signify wealth and an expensive way of living
  • Examples of wants:

    • Fashion accessories, shoes, clothes
    • Travelling around the world
    • Eating in an exclusive restaurant
    • Watching movies, concerts, plays
    • Having luxurious cars, wearing expensive jewelry, perfume, living in impressive homes
  • Generating Ideas for Business
    1. Examine the existing goods and services
    2. Examine the present and future needs
    3. Examine how the needs are being satisfied
    4. Examine the available resources around you
    5. Read magazines, news articles, and other publications on new products and techniques or advances in technology
  • Selecting the Right Idea
    1. How much capital is needed to put up the business
    2. How big is the demand for the product
    3. How is the demand met
    4. Do you have the background and experience needed to run this business
    5. Will the business be legal, not going against any existing or foreseeable government regulation
    6. Is the business in line with your interest and expertise
  • Environmental scanning
    A process of gathering, analyzing, and dispensing information for tactical or strategic purposes
  • SWOT analysis should distinguish between where your business is today, and where it could be in the future
  • SWOT should always be specific. Avoid any grey areas
  • SWOT is subjective
  • By means of reflecting to the business that you want to start-up with, you must be able to determine the different areas that you need to fill-in and be able to understand the good and the bad sides of your business proposal. With the outcome of it, you may be able to rectify the problems that you might foresee and be able to provide solutions to them
