    oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital stage
  • the oral stage is birth to 18 months
  • the oral stage is when the mouth is the main focus of pleasure
  • if the oral stage is succesful then it will be shown through weaning
  • if the oral stage fails then the child can become oral receptive or oral aggressive
  • what is oral receptive?
    when the baby is passive, needy and sensitive to rejection
  • what is oral aggressive?
    when the child is hostile, verbally abusive and sarcastic
  • during the oral stage the child enjoys sucking and tasting
  • the anal stage is from 18 months- 3 years
  • anal stage is when defecation is the main source of pleasure
  • if the anal stage is successful it is shown through the child being potty trained
  • if the child is unsuccessful in the anal stage they will become anally retentive or anally expulsive
  • what is anally retentive?
    tidy, stubborn and likes being in control
  • what is anally expulsive?

    generous but disorganised and the child doesn't like to follow rules
