Ionic Bonding

Cards (2)

  • Ionic Bonding

    • FOA : strong electrostatic forces of attraction exist between the cations and anions
    • Structure : in an ionic compound, oppositely charged ions are arranged regularly in a giant ionic crystal lattice. Ions are arranged in an alternate manner to prevent repulsion in a three dimensional structure
    • ionic compound are electrically neutral as the total charge of the cations cancel out the total charge of the anions
  • Polyatomic ions

    • polyatomic ions are ions that are made up of two or more atoms covalently bonded together
    • e.g. SO4 2-
