Stage 1 (N1) - Light Sleep
Transitional period between wakefulness and sleep; physiological responses slow; brain activity, heart rate, body temp
Stage 2(N2) - Light Sleep
can still be woken, but bursts of brain activity help resist being woken from environmental stimuli, the stage experienced the most through sleep episode
Stage 3(N3) - Deep Sleep
Physiological responses are at their slowest + most difficult to wake. Known as slow-wave sleep.
Experienced more in first half of night than second half
