  • Quadratic Function
    A nonlinear function that can be written in the form y = ax^2 + bx + c, where a, b, and c are constants.
  • How to Determine if a Function is Linear or Quadratic?
First, multiply the binomials, and write in standard form. Second, determine whether its a quadratic if theres an x^2 on the quadratic term. If not, then it is a linear function.
  • Linear or Quadratic?
    Examine the expression: If it's in the form f(x) = mx + b, it's Linear. If it's in the form f(x) = ax^2 + bx + c, it's Quadratic.
  • Catch the Pattern
Quadratic functions have terms with a x^2, while Linear functions do not. If you see an x^2 term, it's a Quadratic.
  • Axis of Symmetry
its the line that divides a parabola into two parts that are mirror images.
  • Vertex
the vertex is the point at which the parabola intersects the axis of symmetry.
  • y-coordinate example
    (3,4) where 4 is the y-coordinate, 4 units above the x-axis
