Meristematic Tissue

Cards (3)

  • Apical Meristem - Found at the tips of roots and stems, as well as the buds of shoots. Responsible for primary growth, increasing the length of the plant
  • Lateral Meristem - Located in the cambium region, which is a thin layer in the stems and roots of woody plants. Responsible for secondary growth, increasing the girth or thickness of the plant.
  • Intercalary Meristem - Occurs at the base of leaf blades and internodes (sections between nodes) in some monocots (e.g., grasses). Facilitates the regrowth of damaged tissues and elongation of stems and leaves.
