Plate Tectonics

    Cards (18)

    • Geology- The study of the structure of the earth originorigin and development
    • Plate tectonic theory - A scientific explanation that describes how the lithosphere is divided into plates, which move over the asthenosphere.
    • Lithosphere - The rigid outer layer of the earth made up of the crust and upper mantle. It is also known as tectonic plate or crustal
    • Lithosphere is said to be in a constant motion but very slow. These motion is not exactly the same everywhere
    • 7 major plate:
      Eurasia
      Indo-australian
      African
      North and South
      Antarctic
      Pacific
    • Major mayor of the earth:
      Crust
      Mantle
      Inner and outer core
    • The plates are in constant motion,as they interact along their margins. Important geologic process take place
    • What are some of the formation when plates are moving?
      earthquake epicenter
      Mountain ranges
      Volcano
    • When there are movement in crust, it's either they meet or move apart that result in formation of volcano and mountain
    • Plates -are large pieces of the upper few hundred kilometers of Earth that move as a single unit as it (floats, moves) above the mantle
    • 2 king of crust:
      Continental
      Oceanic
    • The world’s earthquakes, volcanoes, and mountain ranges are not randomly distributed over the Earth’s surface. They are both situated at the same (location, near the edges of the continents.
    • What causes the lithosphere to be divide?
      Earthquake
      Formation of mountain and volcano
      Volcanic eruption
    • Where does the epicenter located?
In the mid contenent, edges, ocean
    • Himalayas- the mounting system of asia
    • Sierra madre- the backbone of Luzon and the longest mountain range
    • Mt. Pinatubo- Erupted July 1991
    • Pacific Ring of Fire- alsoalso called circum-pacific belt
