    • How is a spit formed:
      1. Firstly, prevailing wind causes zigzag longshore dirft, which moves sediment down the coast.
      2. Secondly, a change in the coastline will cause a spit to grow out at sea.
      3. Thirdly, the end of the spit will start to curve backwards, due to it being exposed to wind and waves.
      4. Finally, a salt marsh is formed in sheltered waters.
