  • prejudice is a negative proconceived notion that is held towards indivudlas due to their membership in a particular group, leading to discrimination
  • discrimination is the action of being prejudices or treating others in an unfair manner based on the negative attitude held about a person or group they belong to
  • direct discrimination occurs when a person/group is treated unfairly and is disadvantaged because of their background or certain personal characteristics

  • equality of status - mebers of the ingroup and outgrip interact with eachother, but without one group exerting power over the other
  • changing social norms - prejudice can be reduced by changing the negative or harmful standards or behaviours that might be accepted within society
