  • Smaller classes which allows each child to have more individual attention from the teacher
  • They do not have to follow the National Curriculum which means that they are able to put more effort into certain subjects
  • Better facilities because of the fees paid by parents which can lead to better attendance, behaviour and achievement
  • Often have an entry exam to get in so the ability of the students on average is highers
  • They encourage success more in academic subjects than practical subjects
  • Students tend to achieve higher:
    • A-A* at A-level at a state funded school is 10.5% and in an independent school it is 29.5%
  • As the students achieve higher they have a better chance of getting into the top universities:
    • Private school students are 7 times more likely to be accepted into Oxford or Cambridge
    • Goes up to 55 times more likely when they are compared with the most disadvantaged students
  • They prepare their students for top jobs in society - lots of top spots are held by privately schools individuals
  • 74% of Judges, 51% of Solicitors, 71% of Senior Armed Forces, 51% of Guil Servants, 61% of Doctors and 51% of Journalists are privately schooled
