Classical and operant conditioning

• Strengths and weakness for operant.

  Strengths:Many applications,explain maintenance of phobias

  Weakness:cant be used to teach complex concepts,punishment doesn't always prevent behaviour,ignorance of factors such as motivation.
• What is a - punishment?

  removal of something pleasant
• What is a + punishment'?

  Natural consequence of a certain action.
• What is a - reinforcement?

  behaviour is followed by the removal of an unpleasant stimulus(taking something away to increase a behaviour)
• What is a + reinforcement?

  occurs when a behaviour is followed by a pleasant consequence.( increases probabbility of happening again)
• Strengths and weaknesses of CC

  Strength: can reduce psychological suffering (eg aversion therapy) and improve Qol,

  Weakness: only explains limited behaviours.

• What experiment did Pavlov conduct?

  When Pavlov gave food to his dogs, he rang the bell. After being repeated for a period of time, the bell on  its own caused an increased in salvation.
