Labelling

• Teachers are going to make judgements of pupils. These are given to pupils based on appearance, language and attitude.
• The middle class are more likely to be labelled as hard working which will result in them doing better in education.
• The working class are more likely to be labelled as naughty which will have a negative effect on their education.
• Becker interviewed 60 Chicago high-school teachers and found that they judged pupils based on their conduct and appearance. He argue that middle class students were more likely to be seen as 'ideal students'.
