• Heron Alexandrinus - Also known as Hero of Alexandria was a greek born in 10 AD in Alexandria.
• Hero's Aeolipile - a steam powered machine named after the Greek god of the winds, Aeolus. It has a treatise named Pneumatics (study of air pressure)
• Archimedes - was said to have invented on of the first steam driven devices in 330 BC named the steam - powered cannon but has no solid evidence.
• Ctesibius - invented a water filled metal sphere that rotated when heated.
• Hyrdaulics - study of fluids in motion
• Ismail Al-Jazari : known for making automatas or self operating devices made the treatise named "Book of Knowledege of Ingenious Mechanical Devices"
• Al-Jazari's famous inventions: The elephant clock, The drink serving device, The crankshaft mechanism
• Leonardo Di Ser Piero Da Vinci - invented a mechanical knight showcasing humanoid robots.
• Jacques de Vaucanson - invented the Vaucanson's Duck
