    • 2g IM if IV cannot be gained (meningococcal septicemia only)

    • add 4ml of 0.9% of NaCl to 2g ampoule
    • draw up using 2 syringes with half in each (total volume 5ml)

    dose:

    dose:
    • seizure = IV 5mg adult, 3mg if cautioned. IM 10mg adult, 5mg if cautioned
    • acute behavioural disturbance = 2-3mg IV every 5min as required, 1-2mg if cautioned. 10mg IM, 5mg if cautioned (repeat after 20 min).
    administration:
    IV = dilute 2ml from a 15mg/3ml ampoule to a total of 10ml using 0.9% NaCl (1 mg/ml). IV BOLUS.
    IM = draw up from 15mg/3ml ampoule undiluted

    Prep:

    Subcutaneous for IV insertion:
    • administer into the subcutaneous tissue at the site of cannulation, raise a bleb and wait approx 1 min before insertion
    Digital ring block:
    • administer approx 1-2ml of 1% into the tissue on either side of the web space of the digit
    IO:
    • administer slowly over 1-2min and wait 1 min before infusing fluid

    8mg IV once for adults.
    Only ONE IV dose in addition to ONE IM dose. Meaning a maximum total dose of 12mg can be given.

    DOSE
    ANALGESIA:
    • IV = 0.25mg/kg, over 15min. Repeat as required (max of 25mg)
    • IM/PO = 0.5mg/kg, repeat once after 20min (max of 50mg)
    ADMINISTRATION
    ANALGESIA:
    • dilute 100mg (1ml) in a 100ml bag of 5% glucose.
    • draw up the dose and administer 2mg (2ml) every 1-2min
