Stress
refers to the relative emphasis/prominence given to a certain syllable in a word or to a certain word in a phrase or sentence
Rising intonation
- used to answer a yes or no question, may use with sentences ending with please
Falling Intonation
- used for a statement, an answer (statement) for a question
Juncture
refers to breaks or pauses in speech that indicates words or other grammatical units
Three symbols of Juncture:
Single Bar Juncture

) - Indicates need for SLIGHT pause between thought groups
Double Bar Juncture (//) - Indicates a LONG pause (,)
Double Cross Juncture (#) - A drop in pitch; need for semicolon, colon, or period
