Legal Reforms

Cards (2)

  • In 1975 there was the Sex Discrimination Act which made sex discrimination in education illegal. This act has raised awareness for equal opportunities in schools and colleges.
  • The Education Reform Act in 1988 introduced the National Curriculum which made maths and science compulsory to the age of 16 for all girls and boys. These changes have allowed women to become more involved in the labour market and having better career opportunities has encouraged girls to work harder in schools. Also, training packs were developed for teachers to look at different aspects of the hidden curriculum and make them more 'girl friendly'.
