Subculture

Cards (1)

  • Boys are more likely than girls to develop an anti-school subculture. Male peer groups don't often value schoolwork and achieve a group status of having disruptive classroom behaviour (labelling). Boys can lose classroom time from being sent out of the room. Boys are also over 3 times more likely than girls to be excluded from school and the most common reason for this is persistent disruptive behaviour. School work can now be seen as 'girly'.
