  • some evangelical groups practice other ordinances such as foot washing + anointing with oil , as they belive that there is a Biblical basis for these.
    • water for the baptism is held in a font
    • the child will be baptised in the sign of the cross , with water poured over their head three times, as the priest mentions each person of God
    • the children may be anointed with holy oil with the sign of the cross on their forehead to show that they now belong to Jesus,
    • the child's parents + godparents declare their faith in the Trinity on behalf of the child + promise to renounce evil on behalf of the child.
    • the parents + godparents promise to raise the child in the faith
    • a candle may be presented to symbolise Jesus' light in the child's life
  • baptism by anointing

    where a small amount of water is poured over the head of the person being baptised.
    this is often performed where the person being baptised is a child.
  • baptism by immersion

    where the person being baptised is fully immersed in water .
    usually performed where the person being baptised is an adult.
  • believer's baptism
    • takes place when a person is old enough to make their own decision to christianity.
    • many churches use a small pool called a baptisery pool for this purpose.
    • some christians are baptised in rivers , which reflects Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist in the River Jordan.
  • Lord's prayer
    Rowan williams (former leader of the anglican church) said that if he had to summarise christianity on the back of an envelope , "the best thing to do would be to write Our Lord's prayer"
