  • P- one limitation of Ellis' ABC model of depression is that it only explains reactive depression and not endogenous depression
  • E- there seems to be no doubt that depression is often triggered by life events- Ellis would call this activating events. However, some cases of depression are not traceable to life events and it is not obvious what lead to the person to become depressed at a particular time
  • E- it is less useful for explaining endogenous depression. It may primarily be caused by genetic and biological factors
  • L- this means that Ellis' explanation only applies to some kind of depression, for this reason this is only a partial explanation for depression
