Seismic waves occur from earthquakes and have multiple forms:
Primary
- longitudinal pressure waves
Secondary
- transverse shear waves
Both are able to travel through
solids
, yet only longitudinal can travel through
liquids
Can be used to identify that the Earth's core is
liquid
as there are large areas where S-waves cannot be found
opposite
to the earthquake's epicentre
