Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Cards (13)

  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome also called Hyperpermeable Pulmonary Edema (HPPE)
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
A form of acute respiratory failure that occurs as a complication caused by a diffuse lung injury or critical illness and leads to extravascular lung fluid
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
    • the main problems are pulmonary edema and atelectasis
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Clinical Manifestations
    A - Atelectasis
    R - refractory hypoxemia
    D - decreased lung compliance
    S - surfactants decreased
    ABG - respiratory acidosis
    Chest Xray - infiltrates
    Earliest sign - tachypnea
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Initial management
    High-flow oxygen, 8 to 10 lpm
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrom: Management
PEEP ventilation - to open up collapsed alveoli and keep them open
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Management
Muscle relaxant is administered to promote chest compliance with the ventilator. Ex: Morphine and Pavulon
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Management
Pavulon - provide meticulous eye care to prevent corneal ulceration
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Management
    Pavulon - inhibits blink reflex
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Ventilator
High pressure alarm turns on - Obstruction
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Ventilator
High pressure alarm turns on - Obstruction
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Ventilator
Low pressure alarm turns on - Disconnection
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Ventilator
Low pressure alarm turns on - Disconnection
