  • Stage 1 of the Menstrual Cycle:
    • Menstruation

  • Stage 2 of Menstrual Cycle:
    • lining starts to build up
    • preparing for a fertilised egg
    • levels of Oestrogen increase as the lining of the uterus builds up

    • levels of FSH increase as it stimulates an egg to mature in one of the ovaries

    • maintaining the uterus lining
    • levels of Progesterone increase, to maintain the lining. If this drops then the lining will break down.
  • Hormone interactions during the Menstrual Cycle:
    STAGE 1 - FSH stimulates the ovaries to start producing Oestrogen
    STAGE 2 - As Oestrogen levels increase, negative feedback inhibits the production of FSH and stimulates the release of LH
    STAGE 4 - As Progesterone increases, it inhibits both LH and FSH
