    • Conservative Party determined to fight changes to the apartheid system and AWB - Afrikaaner Resistance Movement led by Terre’Blanche, which is a Nazi-style far-right organisation that wanted to maintain white supremacy
    • Communists causing split in ANC, Inkatha seen by many as acting on orders of government to disrupt ANC (link back to inter-racial struggles during the 1980s) and Police seen as a “Third Force” stirring up violence at a time when violence was still escalating
