  • there is supporting evidence by Hagerty
  • hagerty examined 88 different countries over 34 years and only countries in the advanced stages of economic development did the later needs in the hierarchy become important
  • a strength is that it is not reductionist as other approaches look at parts whereas humanistic looks at things hollistically. This approach may have more validity by considering meaningful human behaviour within the real-world context
  • even though its reductionist it could be more scientific. This is because the ideal of science is the experiment and experiments reduce behaviours into independent and dependent variables. Short of imperical evidence to support its claims
  • a strength is that it is a positive approach and is optomisitc. It promotes a more positive image of the human condition. This suggests it offers a refreshing and optimistic alternative than other approaches
  • a limitation is that there is cultural bias. Some of the ideas such as individual freedom would be associated with countries that have more individualisitc tendancies. In some countries it might not be an important approach compared to others
  • a limitation is that there is limited application as there has been a relatively little impact in psychology. It has been described not as a comprehensive theory but more of a lose set of abstract ideas. Rogers therapy revolutionalised counsilling techniques and maslow hierarchy of needs has been used to explain motivation in the work place
