Cards (2)

  • FPO
    • Factor: introducing new species
    • Process: they can outcompete or prey on native species
    • Outcome: Lead to changes in the whole ecosystem. This can affect regulating services such as nutrient recycling processes and even the disappearance of species of animals
  • Example
    • Cane toads were introduced to Australia in 1935 to control agricultural pests. They have outcompeted many native amphibians and reptiles for food and habitat. Their large size and aggressive behaviour have led to a decline in native species.
