    Made when liquid magma cools to form solid rock
  • Magma
    Molten rock below the earths surface is called magma and lava when it is released to the surface
  • Extrusive Igneous rock
    If the rock cools quickly, small crystals will form. e.g Basalt
  • Intrusive Igenous rock
    if the rock cools slowly, larger crystals will form. e.g Granite
  • Sedimentary Rock
    Formed by the weathering of existing rock on the earths surface. Within these rocks fossils may be present. Sediments accumulate into layers and get pressurised due to the newer deposits above them. e.g Limestone
  • Metamorphic Rock
    Formed from existing rock when heat and or pressure causes change within the rocks crystals without melting them. The changes in these rocks casn be physical, chemical or even both. e.g marble and slate.
