    Relationships in childhood-
    • Attachment type is associated with the type and quality of relationships during childhood.
    • Wilson and Smith (1998) assessed the types of attachment and how they behave in the scenario of bullying, using 196 7-11yr kids from London and a questionnaire.
    • Secure weren’t involved in bullying at all.
    • Insecure-avoidant were most likely to be the victims.
    • Insecure-resistant were most likely to be the bully.

    • McCarthy (1999) studied 40 women who had been assessed when they were babies to establish how their attachment type has affected their adult life.
    • Secure had the best friendships and romantic relationships.
    • Insecure-resistant had struggles with friendships as a child.
    • Insecure-avoidant had struggles with romantic relationships and intimacy.
    • IWM impacts how people parent, like with the 99 mothers study.

    The love quiz – Hazan and Shaver (1987)-
    • 620 replies from a questionnaire on an American newspaper.
    • Questions on current/most important relationships, general love experiences and attachment type.
    • 56% were identified as secure, 25% as insecure-avoidant, 19% as insecure-resistant.
  • Early attachment and later life relationships-
    CPS- Supporting evidence (Fearon and Roisman 2017) concluding how early attachment affects emotional and relationship development.
    CPW- Not all supporting (Becker-stoll et al 2008) 43 P’s from 1, assessed attachment at 16 and there was no evidence of continuity.
