Articles and Amendments

Cards (4)

  • Articles 4 to 7 entrench federalism and the separation of powers into the constitution
  • The first 10 amendments were the Bill of Rights (1791) to reassure citizens that the US government would not be unitary like British rule
  • The 18th amendment established prohibition (1919) and was repealed by the 21st amendment (1933)
It is seen as an anomaly as amendments are notoriously hard to pass yet such an insignificant one was passed and repealed
  • The 27th amendment passed in 1992 was proposed to be part of the Bill of Rights 1791
