Stages of DNA replication

Cards (3)

  • what is the first stage of DNA replication?
DNA helicase breaks the hydrogen bonds between the complementary bases of the two DNA polymers which causes the double helix to unwind and the two strands will separate.
  • what is the second stage in DNA replication?
The two strands from the previous double helix are now acting as templates. Free floating DNA nucleotides will align opposite their complementary base on the two free strands. Then Hydrogen bonds will form between the complementary base pairs.
  • what is the third stage in DNA replication?
DNA polymerase joins adjacent DNA nucleotides together, forming a phosphodiester bond between them to create a new polymer chain of DNA.
